Moffat has wide variety of attractions. In floral Station Park have a game of Pitch and Putt, Table Tennis and watch the children play at the Moffatasia water fountain feature or to the other end of the park relax and take one of the swan-shaped boats onto the boating lake. Free parking is nearby.

For sporting activities we have a moorland style golf course with wonderful views. At the north end of town are tennis courts, bowling green and a Sports Barn for indoor activities.

A visit to the beautiful Cragieburn Gardens, 2 miles from Moffat on the A708. Craigieburn is a garden born on an ancient site with a beautifully laid out collection of plants over 5 acres; or a visit to Craiglochan Gardens, 2 miles east of Moffat on the A708, Craiglochan is set to blend naturally in the the beautiful Moffat Water Valley, against the backdrop of the surrounding hills.

The Hammerlands Centre offers visitors fishing including a bait pool and rod hire, a stroll along the large pools to feed the fish, a golf driving range including club hire, garden centre, coffee shop and restaurant.

Moffat is a small, traditional town with individual, independent shops offering all the things you thought you could not find - and staff happy to help you find them or get them in especially for you! You can take home organic wines, personal gifts and memento's of your visit, quality produce and clothing and enjoy free parking. Or be fascinated by Moffat's Spa heritage in Moffat Museum and see the historical items and short video about the history of Moffat. The museum is open at Easter, then from Whit weekend on Monday.Tuesday and Thursday - Saturday from 10.45am - 4.15pm. Admission is free.

Just off of town centre is Moffat Woollen Mill, here you can trace your Scottish clan history, watch the weaving exhibition or browse through the quality clothing, golfing items, whisky shop, food and gifts, plus have refreshments in the restaurant.

At the end of the day you can enjoy drama, music and dance at The Old Well Theatre which hosts a busy calendar of events. From plays to Scottish music evenings. The Summer Season of "Sounds Scottish", presented every Wednesday and some Fridays during the summer are a traditional Scottish evening's entertainment to delight all visitors.

Food: There are many bars and restaurants in the town where you can just sit back and enjoy a meal, maybe with a little Scottish music playing in the background. You can choose from traditional bar meals, gourmet dinners, italian, indian or good fish suppers. Take away is also available, choose Fish & Chips, Chinese, Indian or Italian.

Not far from Moffat

Samye Ling Buddhist Monastery at Eskdalemuir is a short drive from Moffat. It is the first and largest Tibetan Centre and Buddhist Monastery in the West. Activities at the Tibetan Temple revolve around the temple timetable, starting at 6am with the sound of the temple gong calling sangha members to the first practice of the day. Visitors are welcome and may come and go with the exception of meditations between 8am and 9am and 5pm and 6pm. For meditation sessions you are requested to settle before meditation starts and remain until the end.

Drumlanrig Castle, an ancient Douglas stronghold and Dumfriesshire home of the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry. 4 miles north of Thornhill and surrounded by the 120,000 acre Queensberry Estate, country park and grand victorian gardens, Drumlanrig Castle was completed in 1691 by William Douglas, 1st Duke of Queensberry and is one of the first and most important renaissance buildings in the grand manner in Scotland. Traquair House, originally a castle was owned by kings of Scotland. Later it became the home of the Earls of Traquair and is still lived in by their decendants, the Maxwell Stuart family. It is well known as the oldest inhabited and most romantic house in Scotland. Secluded in woodland gardens and forest less than 30 miles south of Edinburgh, Traquair stands serene; this is one place in Scotland you will always remember with happy affection. Caerlaverock Castle is one of the finest castles in Scotland. Its most remarkable features are the twin-towered gatehouse and the Nithsdale Lodging, a splendid Renaissance range dating from 1638. Access to a children's adventure park and replica siege engines in front of castle and nature trail to the old castle is included. Recent excavations are currently being laid out for visitors.
