About the area:

Moffat Water Hall is situated at the edge of a small hamlet of five houses at Roundstonefoot. The nearest shops and services are five miles away in Moffat. It is essentially a venue for those with outside interests or wishing for a quiet retreat in the countryside. The hall is within a designated SSSI area . (Site of Special Scientific Interest). There is excellent walking right from the hall door, with Hartfell, White Coomb, Saddle Yoke and Bodesbeck Law notable peaks close by. The Southern Upland Way which crosses Scotland from coast to coast is easily accessible. There is also good fishing, canoeing and horse riding in the region. Within the SSSI area, there are many rare plants to interest the botanist whilst peregrine falcons and goshawks are amongst the many species of birds to be seen in the surrounding hills.

Other places of interest include Dobbs Linn - well known for its geological features; the Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall within the National Trust for Scotland park; The Carrifran Wildwood - a glaciated valley managed by Border Forest Trust with the aim to recreate the environment that existed 5000 years ago; a population of around 250 feral goats reputed to be one of the best examples of the British primitive goat remaining in Scotland .

The town of Moffat:

Moffat (population 2200) is a small tourist-oriented country town with healthy living as its theme. Its success was built on its spa reputation and it is well serviced with good eating places and shops. Bus services link it with Edinburgh, Carlisle and Glasgow.

During the summer a thrice weekly bus service, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, runs from Moffat to Selkirk or Melrose, passing the Hall on its route.
